I OWN THAT DOG!!

As an American Staffordshire Terrier (Pitty) owner, I have found myself in hurdles and confusion on different topics of raising them. I don’t think anyone who has never owned one can relate to the situations that I might face day-to-day. But first I want to share this blog to start.

My kids have been raised around Pit Bulls their whole life

My oldest son is sure to follow this breed with me and he shares the same interests as me. However, I have also taken the time with all of the kids to talk, watch videos, listen to me read from books and showed them, with our dogs, the truth, it is so nice to see how they listen and share this with me.

Anyway, as I type this and think of how to get my point across I know there are reasons for others to feel differently about the breed. I wont tell someone they are wrong for feeling a different way because that is their feeling alone. I do try to shed light on the situation and share information that sometimes is overlooked.

As I will never tell someone to not fear an animal because that is just not the right way -- that is human nature and how we keep ourselves safe. However, lets break down what I just said

“I would never tell someone to not fear an animal”.

Animal is the key word here and it is important to understand that word. We have many types of animals all around us: kittens, birds, lizards and so on.

that is why I am trying so hard to get out there and share facts. People are right to a point; however, this statement will not help the breed, instead it keeps a wall between truth and understanding.

I have a big rule for anyone that talks to me about the breed as they are trying to defend them in the wrong way. When I hear someone say “I don’t understand why people are so hateful or scared of the Pit they are so sweet and would not hurt anyone” WRONG, and that is why I am trying so hard to get out there and share facts. People are right to a point; however, this statement will not help the breed; instead it keeps a wall between truth and understanding.

When I heard my kids say similar statements??

I had to educate.

Understanding the breed YOU own is the key to building their reputation back up. When you do not understand the breed you are raising and the capabilities of what they can do, YOU are the bad one,

You don’t raise a puppy like a kitten!!

I personally don’t like using one breed to the next!! So, I use different species BECAUSE that is where the difference is.

Pittys, no matter how you look at them, are DOGS!! They are just like any other DOG!!

So, lesson 1- Any

Animal!!

can hurt or injure a person or another animal ANY ANIMAL!!!

I Love MY PITTYS! anyone that knows me will tell you they are my pride

I love watching them

learning with them

and

seeing the blood line come out of them.

The best part is they

respect me and protect me

However, I also took the time to:

learn how to keep them busy

BY Creating my own

  • Pitty toys

  • games

What I do know

My Pittys:

love people (because I showed them they could)

Yes I have had my fare share of ups and downs, I am still not perfect and will never look at myself as fully educated because I learn every day.

Learning about the breed is a passion for me -- I enjoy it, I love it and I love showing them off.

This blog is to open your mind to truth, not misunderstanding!! I will be sharing some stories that will give insight to the obstacles around owners of Pittys. This blog is only touching the base of what I hear, see, and feel!!

Let's Share!!!

I would like to have all of you reading this blog tell me something that you find unrespectable that someone has said about your dog. This does not have to only pertain to Pittys. How did you handle that? And What did you say?
